Back by popular demand, the heartbreaking story of Prince Duleep Singh, the last Maharajah of the Punjab, returns to The Drum. Aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils, the play tells of how Duleep Singh was deposed at the age of eleven and sent to England, where he was immediately adopted by Queen Victoria. Injustice and insincere intentions eventually drove the emperor of the Sikhs into the throws of exploitative meddlers who offered allegiance but left him isolated – he died penniless and alone in a desolate hotel in Paris in 1983.
